DAY 07 | Wonderful Counselor

A child will be born for us. A son will be given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. He will be named: Pele Yo’etz (Wonderful Counselor), Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

PRAYER

I praise You, my Wonderful Counselor. As the heavens soar high above the earth, Your ways surpass my ways.

Thank You for showing me that Jesus is the only way to the Father and for guiding me every step of the way. You are all-knowing and all-loving, and You always have my best interest at heart.

Forgive me for my self-reliance; I tend to lean on my limited understanding, perception, knowledge, and ability. Forgive me for making decisions without seeking or involving You.

Reveal to me how much I need Your divine counsel and guidance in all areas of my life. Grant me a child-like heart that fully trusts in You. Bring me back on track with Your loving hand the moment I stray away.

Because You are my Wonderful Counselor, I declare as I acknowledge You and I seek You, You will illuminate my path.

A few facts…

  • The Hebrew word Pele is a phenomenon beyond human explanation. The Bible only uses it to describe God’s deeds and words and never uses this word to describe human works.

  • Pele Yo’etz is commonly translated as “Wonderful Counselor/Counsellor”, but it is also translated as “Wonderful Advisor” (Contemporary English Version) and “Extraordinary Strategist” (New English Translation).

  • Pele Yo’etz is one part of a fourfold prophetic name of Jesus (Isaiah 9:6).

Exercise 1:

TWO-WAY JOURNALING

Find a quiet space and sit in a comfortable position. Consciously relax your neck, shoulders, and jaws.

Smile and breathe. Smile, He will counsel you with His loving eye on you (Psalm 32:8). Inhale through the nose, and imagine you are breathing in His wisdom, allowing the air to fill your abdomen. Hold that breath for a moment, acknowledge and celebrate the fact that His thoughts are always higher than our thoughts. Exhale slowly through your mouth as you release any confusion and uncertainty in you.

When I need to seek God’s guidance, two-way journaling is now my go-to tool. It helps me navigate my inner world, clear my entangled thoughts and uncover my hidden feelings in His presence. It opens me up to listen to God, to tap into His wise and loving counsel, allowing Him to shed light on my path.

Today, we are writing to our Wonderful Counselor. It’s a perfect opportunity to acknowledge His guidance and seek His direction. Let’s invite the Holy Spirit to guide you. Listen to His response and record it.

[Part 1]

Dear Father, Wonderful Counselor …

[Part 2]

Dear child / (your name), …

  • • process a specific situation or issue before Him, ask for His advice, map out a plan together with Him

    • recount an event in your life in which you had (or had not) sought His counsel, discuss with Him

    • reflect on your habit of seeking His counsel

Check out APPENDIX 2 for more.

Exercise 2:

DECLARATION

Knowledge is acquiring facts, and wisdom is seeing how these facts fit into your life. We know that He is the Wonderful Counselor, but how does this fact relate to the way you live today? Write your declaration. Make it personal and meaningful, so that it gives you chills every time you say it.

Because You are my Wonderful Counselor, I declare I can / I will / I am…

Declare it over yourself as many times as you need to let the words sink into your bones. Do not underestimate the power of this declaration, your faith pleases God and can move His heart beyond imagination. If you find it helpful, consider posting your declaration somewhere you can see it every day.

This completes Day 7 of HE, thank you for joining me. Today, I simply pray that you would truly delight in the counsel of God, the One who orchestrates the details of your life for His purpose.
