DAY 11 | The LORD Will Provide

Abraham named that place Adonai Yireh (The LORD Will Provide). It is still said today, “On the mountain of Yahweh it will be provided.”

Genesis 22:14

PRAYER

You are the LORD, My Provider, and I exalt You. You are a loving Father who provides abundantly according to the riches of Your glory in Christ Jesus.

Thank You for caringly supplying all my needs. I must thank You also for what I don't have, so I may learn to depend on You even more.

Forgive me for spending even a moment worrying, for not counting my blessings but focusing on what I lack. Forgive me for being ungrateful and entitled.

Train my heart to seek first Your kingdom and Your righteousness, and anchor my life on Your unfailing promises. Let me be an answer to someone's prayer, stir my heart to give generously what You have graciously given me.

Because You are the LORD Who Provides, I declare I will steep my life in Your abundance and Your faithfulness.

A few facts…

  • God provided Abraham with a ram to sacrifice in place of his only son, Isaac. Abraham named that place Adonai Yireh. (Genesis 22:1-19)

  • Adonai Yireh, Yahweh Yireh, Jehovah Jireh, YHWH Jireh refer to the same title of God.

  • Yireh comes from לִרְאוֹת (lirot) which means “to see”, or “to foresee”. The same root is used to describe someone who can see things others cannot, e.g. a seer or a prophet. Adonai Yireh is literally, The Lord Who Sees, or The Lord Who Will See To It.

  • Some commentators do not regard Adonai Yireh as a name of God, for it was just a name Abraham gave the place where God provided him with a ram. Nonetheless, being our provider is certainly an important attribute of God that should not be excluded from this series.

  • It is widely believed that Mount Moriah (where God provided Abraham with a ram to sacrifice in Isaac’s place) and Golgotha (where God provided His lamb, Jesus, to be crucified in our place) could be the same area.

Exercise 1:

TWO-WAY JOURNALING

In your quiet space, sit up straight. Do a few stretches if you have the time and space for such. Relax your neck, shoulders, your jaws.

Smile and breathe. Smile, He will supply all your needs from His glorious riches (Philippians 4:19). Inhale deeply as you imagine His storehouse in heaven, where the concept of lack simply doesn’t exist. Pause and hold your breath for a few seconds. Thank Him in advance for all that He will provide for you. Slowly breathe out through your mouth, release to Him your worries, your sense of lack, and your insecurity. Repeat these steps a couple of times if you need.

Two-way journaling is a time to clear our heads, to hear His heart, and to re-centre ourselves in His presence. You may find it a therapeutic experience. Today, we are writing to The LORD Who Provides. Wait and listen to Him, allow Him to shed light on your situation. Let’s pray for the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

[Part 1]

Dear Father / The LORD Who Provides, …

[Part 2]

Dear child / (your name), …

  • • recount and celebrate His loving provision in the ordinary and in the miraculous.

    • address your unmet desires or needs before Him. May it be your finance, a job or ministry position, a listener, a life partner, a child, a solution, a healing miracle, etc.

Check out APPENDIX 2 for more.

Exercise 2:

DECLARATION

This exercise is designed to encourage you to see your life in the light of who God is. He is the One who sees ahead of you and provides for you. How does this relate to your current situation? Try to be specific when you write your declaration. A faith-filled declaration reframes your thinking and aligns your “perceived reality” with “God’s reality”.

Because You are the LORD Who Provides for me, I declare I can / I will / I am…

Read your declaration out loud, declare it over your life. If it gives you chills and excitement, it is working in you! You may repeat it throughout the day and before you go to sleep, post it somewhere prominent to remind yourself.

This completes Day 11 of HE. Today, I pray that He will anoint you with Abraham’s faith and obedience which not only give you access to His divine providence but will also benefit many others.
